Cesár González golazo contra Ecuador, Copa América 2011
On 9 July 2011 Cesár González scored one of the best goals of the 2011 Copa América tournament to give Venezuela a 1-0 win against Ecuador and move themselves to the top of group B and within touching distance of qualifying for the knockout stage. The result can be seen as further evidence that Venezuela have finally shed their traditional status as the whipping boys of South American football.
The quality of the strike was reminiscent of another stunning long range strike for Venezuela in a 1-0 win against Ecuador.
Leonel Núñez golazo contra Huracán, Clausura 2011
On 18 June 2011 Huracán faced a tough looking trip to Avellaneda to play Independiente knowing that a win would allow them to avoid automatic relegation. The game did not go well for the visitors who had their goalkeeper sent off, missed a penalty and found themselves 4-1 down going into the last minute when Leonel Núñez scored this cracking individual goal to add a fifth for Independiente. As the final whistle went the Huracán fans were in mourning as their relegation rivals were winning 2-1 against Boca Juniors and about to leapfrog Huracán out of the automatic relegation zone however Cristian Cellay scored a late equaliser for Boca to set up a playoff between Huracán and Gimnasia to determine which of them ends up automatically relegated and which will face Union de Santa Fe in the promotion/relgation playoff.
Martín Palermo golazo contra Quilmes, Clausura 2011
On 5 June 2011 Argentine giants Boca Juniors found themselves two goals down to relegation favourites Quilmes in the 17th round of the Clausura 2011 tournament. Their iconic all time top scorer Martín Palermo bagged his 6th goal in 7 games with this stunning strike to pull one back and Cristian Chávez equalised four minutes later to earn the 2-2 draw. Palermo's goal made him the joint 4th highest goalscorers in the Argentine Primera División since the professionalisation of the game back in 1931 with 227 league goals.
Golazo Leandro Caruso taco contra San Lorenzo, Clausura 2011
On 22 May 2011 Argentine giants River Plate needed a win against San Lorenzo in order to avoid finishing the weekend occupying one of the Primera Division relegation places. Leandro Caruso got the hosts off to a cracking start with this back-heel finish to establish a 1-0 lead (note the nutmeg from Mariano pavone in the build up play) but River goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo threw the win away with another awful goalkeeping error to leave the never relegated club in the relegation zone with only 4 games of the season remaining.
Santiago Silva golazo contra Gimnasia Clausura 2011
On 22 May 2011 Vélez Sársfield had the opportunity to establish a three point lead at the top of the Clausura 2011 table if they could beat a struggling Gimnaisa side. Santiago Silva scored this cracking goal to put the hosts 1-0 up and Maxi Morales secured the 2-0 win with a late penalty.
Maxi Moralez golazo vs Libertad, Copa Libertadores 2011
On 18 May 2011 Argentine league leaders Vélez Sársfield travelled to Paragauy to play Libertad in the quarter-finals of Copa Libertadores 2011. The Argentine side were defending a comfortable 3-0 lead from the first leg but Libertad were determined to make a good game of, taking the lead twice only to see Maxi Moralez equalise both goals. His second equaliser came about after this wonderful team move. Vélez bagged a couple more goals late in the game for a 2-4 win on the night and an impressive 7-2 aggregate victory.
Patricio Rodríguez vs Olimpo, Clausura 2011 Argentina
On 15 May 2011 Independiente faced a tough looking trip to Bahía Blanca to play Olimpo in the 14th round of the Clausura 2011 tournament in Argentina. The two sides were involved in the battle to avoid finishing in the relegation places and a win for Olimpo would have lifted them out of the drop zone and above River Plate and Independiente however the reds recorded only their second away win in 22 games against Argentine opposition thanks to this spectacular individual effort from man-of-the-match Patrico Rodríguez.

On 14 May 2011 Emmanuel Gigliotti scored this brilliant goal to give All Boys a 1-0 win against Arsenal de Sarandí, a result that virtually guarantees their Primera División survival.
Lucas golazo vs Mirassol, Paulista 2011
There has been a lot of hype about 18 year old São Paulo & Brazil international midfielder Lucas and also some confusion given the fact that there is already a Brazil international nicknamed Lucas. The general consensus is that Lucas the younger has great skills and lots of pace but is lacking in awareness, something that he is likely to improve with age and experience. On 3 April 2011 he scored this great individual goal against Mirassol in the Paulista championship.
Ronaille golazo contra Junior, Apertura 2011 Colombia
On 27 March 2011 Junior played América de Cali in the 8th round of the Apertura 2011 tournament in Colombia. Junior opened the scoring with a looping backheel goal from Carlos Bacca but América earned a 1-1 draw with this acrobatic finish from América's Brazilian forward Ronaille.

On 27 March 2011 Junior played América de Cali in the 8th round of the Apertura 2011 tournament in Colombia. Junior opened the scoring with this looping backheel goal from Carlos Bacca (who also scored a great goal against América back in 2010). The game ended 1-1 after another golazo from América's Brazilian forward Ronaille.
Rogério Ceni 100 goals
On 27 March 2011 legendary Brazilian goalkeeper Rogério Ceni scored this cracking free kick for São Paulo in a 2-1 win against Corinthians. He is the highest scoring goalkeeper in the history of professional football with 100 goals, see video below.
Mariano Donda golazo vs Tigre, Clausura 2011
On 27 March 2011 Tigre hosted Godoy Cruz in the seventh round of the Clausure 2011 tournement in Argentina. Mariano Donda had a brilliant first half, scoring this piledriver of a free kick and providing the cross for Álvaro Navarro to head home a second goal for the visitors. Tigre fought back in the second half with a couple of goals from Denis Stracqualursi to salvage a 2-2 draw.
Juan Román Riquelme vs Colón, Clausura 2011
On 27 March Argentine giants Boca Juniors faced a tough trip to Santa Fe to play Colón in the 7th round of the Clausura 2011 tournament. Boca had suffered a run of three consecutive defeats and lay down in 17th position in the table. Juan Román Riquelme secured a vital 0-1 win with this intelligent free kick to beat Colón goalkeeper Diego Pozo at his near post. I was particularly pleased with this goal as I predicted a 0-1 away win for Boca Juniors in my Clausura weekly preview article.
Jefferson Angulo golazo vs Itagüí Ditaires, Apertura 2011 Colombia
On 19 March 2011 Colombian side Millonarios recorded their third win of the season in a 2-1 win against high flying Primera A new boys Itagüí Ditaires. The fallen giants of Colombian football had to come from a goal behind after this great strike from Cleiter Alzáte however Jefferson Angulo's individual effort for the winner was every bit as good.
Cleider Alzáte golazo contra Millonarios, Apertura 2011 Colombia
On 19 March 2011 newly promoted Colombian Primera División side Itagüí Ditaires played Millonarios with the opportunity to join Once Caldas on sixteen points at the top of the division. Things didn't work out well for them as they suffered a 2-1 defeat, only their second defeat of the season. They did score one of the goals of the Colombian season so far. Lionard Pajoy bamboozled the Millonarios defence with a number of gambetas and turns before playing the ball back to Cleider Alzáte who calmly curled a shot into the far top corner of the Millonarios goal.
Mauricio Folleco golazo vs Deportivo Quito
On 19 March in Ecuador newly promoted Imbabura faced a tough trip to face league leaders Deportivo Quito. They lost the game 3-2 and found themselves back at the bottom of the table but they can be fairly proud to have given the league leaders a decent game and of this terrific golazo from Mauricio Folleco.
Michael Arroyo golazo vs Universidad San Martín, Copa Libertadores 2011
On 22 March 2011 Mexican side San Luis faced a must win game against Peruvian side Universidad San Martín in group one of the 2011 Copa Libertadores and anything less than a win for the hosts would have meant elimination from the tournament.
San Luis were already 1-0 up when Ecuadorian midfielder Arroyo hit this half-volley, the first of his two goals in a vital 3-1 win for the club.
Hernán Rodrigo López vs Racing, Clausura 2011
On Sunday 20 March 2011 Primera División leaders hosted reigning Argentine champions Estudiantes in the sixth round of the Clausura 2011 tournament.
Estudiantes bossed the first half but couldn't make the breakthrough and in the second half Racing Club came out fighting. The hosts created a number of great chances to score and had a brilliantly taken Teófilo Gutiérrez goal wrongly disallowed for offside.
As is often the way Estudiantes capitalised on this bad call by scoring a late winner. The goal was this excellent chip from Uruguayan forward Hernán Rodrigo López, his second wonderful goal of the week and his fourth goal in two games.
