Ronaille golazo contra Junior, Apertura 2011 Colombia
On 27 March 2011 Junior played América de Cali in the 8th round of the Apertura 2011 tournament in Colombia. Junior opened the scoring with a looping backheel goal from Carlos Bacca but América earned a 1-1 draw with this acrobatic finish from América's Brazilian forward Ronaille.
Claudio Riaño vs Alumni, Argentino A 2010-11 - Golazo
On 6 March 2011 Talleres de Córdoba faced Alumni de Villa María the regionalised third division of Argentine football. It was a hugely significant game for the hosts, who would secure qualification to the promotion playoffs with a win.
Talleres had fallen a long way since they became the first (and to date only) indirectly affiliated team to win a major trophy when they won the defunct Copa Conmebol back in 1999. They were relegated from the Primera División in 2004 despite finishing in 3rd place in the Clausura. They were then relegated from the 2nd tier in 2009.
In the end they managed to record an exciting 3-2 win against Alumni, the highlight of the game being this estraordinary overhead kick from Claudio Riaño.
Golazo: Martín Palermo vs Banfield
Martín Palermo recently scored his 300th career goal, 230 of them were for Boca Juniors where he is now the all time top scorer. In Apertura 2004 he scored this chilena against Banfield to end Boca Juniors run of six games without scoring a goal.
He has scored a number of other brilliant goals for the club including this chilena for his 200th Boca Juniors goal, this record breaking header and this spectacular long range strike against Independiente.
Golazo: Franco Niell Olimpo vs Argentinos Juniors, Apertura 2010
Both Olimpo and Argentinos Juniors had dismal starts to the Primera División Apertura 2010 tournament. The reigning champions failed to win any of their first nine games and Olimpo found themselves in the automatic relegation place and miles from safety after a six game losing streak.
Both teams began to recover in October and by their encounter on 22 November they had the best recent form of all the teams outside the top 7 places. Olimpo dominated the game until this "chilena" from Argentinos Juniors striker Franco Niell earned the champions a point.
En Contra: Facundo Quiroga bicycle kick own goal for Racing Club
On 28 September 2008 River Plate defender Facundo Quiroga scored one of the truly great own goals with a bicycle kick to start the scoring in an entertaining 3-3 draw with Racing Club.

Universidad San Martín 4-1 Inti Gas, Preuvian Primera 2010
On 21 November 2010 Peruvian sides Universidad San Martín and Inti Gas faced each other in a Primera División match. USM were the best team in the division at the time and Inti Gas were the highest goalscorers and the game didn't disappoint. USM established a 4-0 lead including a bicycle kick from Ronald Quinteros then in the last minute Colombian striker Leonardo Mina Polo scored a consolation goal for Inti Gas with the 2nd bicycle kick of the game.
Golazo: Miguel Paniagua Guaraní 4-0 Libertad, Apertura 2009 Paraguay
30 May 2009: In the 17th round of the Paraguayan Apertura 2009 Guaraní defensive midfielder Miguel Paniagua scored this spectacular "chilena" to round off a surprise 4-0 win against title contenders Libertad.
Aftermath
This result was enough to derail Libertad's title challenge, they eventually finished 4 points behind champions Cerro Porteño. Guaraní finished in mid table and Paniagua earned himself a loan move to Argentine giants River Plate, the move was not a success and he returned to Guaraní in 2010.
Golazo: Jonathan Cristaldo chilena
27 September 2009: Vélez Sársfield and Huracán who were the top two teams from the previous season met in the 6th round of the Apertura 2009 tournament. The game finished 2-0 in favour of Vélez thanks to two goals from their talented midfielder Jonathan Cristaldo. The second one was a "chilena" (overhead kick) from well outside the opposition penalty area It was not quite spectacular enough to better Mauro Bressan's effort against Barcelona in 2000, but it is definitely worthy of a spot in the Golazo series.
Aftermath
Shortly afterwards the Huracan manager Ángel Cappa quit because his squad shorn of their best players were failing to get good results. They eventually finished in 19th place, 18 places lower than the previous season. Vélez fared better but failed to retain their title, finishing in 5th place 7 points behind Banfield who won the championship for the first time in their history.
Golazo: Hernán Crespo River Plate vs Sporting Cristal, Copa Libertadores 1996
On 8 May 1996 Argentine giants River Plate faced Peruvian side Sporting Cristal in the second round of the Copa Libertadores. River were 2-1 down from the first leg but put in a huge performance in front of their home crowd at the Estadio Monumental. They won the game 5-2 and progressed to the next round. The highlight of the game was this remarkable "chilena" from a young Hernán Crespo.
River Plate went on to claim their 2nd Copa Libertadores championship, beating América de Cali in the final, the same team they had beaten 10 years previously to win their first Copa Libertadores in 1986.
Golazo: Martín Palermo vs Deportivo Táchira - Gol 200
Martín Palermo has plenty of critics in Argentina, they usually complain that he has limited talent and technical abilities and can only score headers.
In some ways he is similar to Alan Shearer, they have both scored hundreds of goals, many of them exceptionally well taken, have been the league top scorer on several occasions and they are brilliant headers of the ball. Yet they have both suffered constant criticism for their style of play.
The difference being of course, that Palermo has won 13 major titles with the club he loves (Boca Juniors), while Shearer won absolutely nothing with Newcastle.
On 13 April 2009 in a Copa Libertadores game against Deportivo Táchira of Venezuela Palermo really silenced his critics by scoring his 200th goal for Boca Juniors with a magnificently taken "Chilena". He soon went on to break Boca Juniors all time goalscoring record surpassing Roberto Cherro's tally of 221 goals on 4 September 2010 with his 222nd goal for the club in a 2-1 win against San Lorenzo.
Golazo: Juan Carlos Oblitas, PERU vs Chile, Copa América 1975: Chilena vs Chile
There is a small amount of controversy in South America over what to call the bicycle kick. Nearly everyone calls it the "Chilena" (meaning Chilean) as it was a speciality of Ramón Unzaga who used the technique in the early 20th Century. The Argentine press labelled the technique the "Chilena" when they first saw it executed by Unzaga in an early edition of the Copa América.
The only people who call it by another name are the Peruvians, who call it the "Chalaca" (meaning from Callao) as they claim it was invented by an unspecified person in the port of Callao and then copied by the Chileans. The evidence is pretty tenuous, one academic claims to have seen proof in a very old (and unspecified) book, and that is about as much as they can come up with. The Peruvians remain fiercely possessive of the move and insist in referring to it in a way that nobody else in South America understands.
When the two sides met in the group stage of the Copa América in 1975, Juan Carlos Oblitas executed one of the most famous "Chalacas" in the history of South Américan football, taking a couple of touches before firing the overhead into the Chilean goal. Despite Peruvian objections it would seem like a dreadful wasted opportunity not to claim that he scored a great "Chilena" against Chile.
Peru went on to beat Chile 3-1 to qualify for the next round in which they famously beat Brazil. They were eventually crowned 1975 Copa América champions after winning a 3rd leg tiebreaker against Colombia.
Golazo: Marcos Pérez, GIMNASIA LP 1-0 Boca Juniors, Clausura 2010 - The double bicycle kick (Chilena doble)
18 April 2010, Colombian teenager Marco Pérez scores the winning goal for Argentine side Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata in a 1-0 win against Boca Juniors with a great overhead kick that became known as the "chilena doble".
