Golazo Leandro Caruso taco contra San Lorenzo, Clausura 2011
On 22 May 2011 Argentine giants River Plate needed a win against San Lorenzo in order to avoid finishing the weekend occupying one of the Primera Division relegation places. Leandro Caruso got the hosts off to a cracking start with this back-heel finish to establish a 1-0 lead (note the nutmeg from Mariano pavone in the build up play) but River goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo threw the win away with another awful goalkeeping error to leave the never relegated club in the relegation zone with only 4 games of the season remaining.
Maxi Moralez golazo vs Libertad, Copa Libertadores 2011
On 18 May 2011 Argentine league leaders Vélez Sársfield travelled to Paragauy to play Libertad in the quarter-finals of Copa Libertadores 2011. The Argentine side were defending a comfortable 3-0 lead from the first leg but Libertad were determined to make a good game of, taking the lead twice only to see Maxi Moralez equalise both goals. His second equaliser came about after this wonderful team move. Vélez bagged a couple more goals late in the game for a 2-4 win on the night and an impressive 7-2 aggregate victory.
Miguel Caneo backheel caño vs Argentinos Juniors, Apertura 2011
On 25 March 2011 Argentinos Juniors (the only unbeaten side) played Quilmes (the only side without a win) in round seven of the Apertura 2011 tournament in Argentina. The game ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw meaning that both sides kept their records. The highlight of the match was this backheel-nutmeg from Miguel Caneo of Quilmes which illustrates that even players from the worst team in the Argentine Primera know a good trick or two.
Carlos Bacca golazo vs América de Cali, Apertura 2011 Colombia
On 27 March 2011 Junior played América de Cali in the 8th round of the Apertura 2011 tournament in Colombia. Junior opened the scoring with this looping backheel goal from Carlos Bacca (who also scored a great goal against América back in 2010). The game ended 1-1 after another golazo from América's Brazilian forward Ronaille.
Golazo: Cristian Sánchez Prette vs Club América, Copa Libertadores 2011
On 24 February 2011 1985 Copa Libertadores champions Argentinos Juniors faced Mexican side Club América in group 3 of the 2011 Copa Libertadores. They had already come back from a goal behind to lead 2-1 thanks to a couple of goals from Santiago Salcedo when Cristian Sánchez Prette sealed them a vital 3-1 win with this 93rd minute strike.
The Mexican opposition are clearly resigned to defeat, witness the way the full back completely pulls out of the challenge and the freedom that Argentinos are allowed in posession for the rest of the move. Even though it stemmed from a long ball and América should have pressurised Argentinos more, the goal was still a nice finish to conclude some neat buildup play.
Golazo: Henrique vs Ecuador, 2011 Sudamericano sub-20
On 25 January 2011 the under twenty sides of Brazil and Ecuador met in the first group stage of the 2011 Sudamericano sub-20 (South American Youth Championships) Brazil had already secured qualification the the final group phase and Ecuador could have joined them with a win however Brazil won the game 1-0 with this well worked goal finished off by 19 year old striker Henrique.
Golazo: Germán Denis vs Colón, Clausura 2007
back in early 2007 Germán Denis was still a workaday footballer but in the first game of the Cluasura 2007 tournament he hinted at the great things that were to come with this specacular flying back-heel goal for Independiente against his former side Colón in a 1-3 home defeat.
The following season Denis finshed as the top scorer in the Primera Division, earned a call up to the Argentina national team and a6.3 million Euro transfer to Italian side Napoli.
Neymar back heel fail.
In the 18th round of the Brasileirão 2010 Santos' latest 18 year old wonderkid Neymar took the opportunity to do some showboating in a game against Avaí, His attempted back-heel didn't exactly come off, but to be fair to the kid it normally does.
Golazo: James Rodríguez, Banfield vs Lanús, Clausura 2010
On 15 February 2010 the Argentine champions Banfield hosted Lanús (the other team to have won their first Argentine championship in the last few years). The 2nd goal of the game was this classy finish from 18 year old Colombian winger James Rodríguez, who also played a part in the buildup with a caño (nutmeg) and a taco (back-heel).
Banfield couldn't retain their championship, nobody has since Boca Juniors in 2005-06 and Rodríguaz was predictably snapped up by one of the European clubs. In this case FC Porto, where he is currently rotting in the reserves.
Golazo: Gabriel Hauche (taco y caño) vs Gimnasia La Plata, Apertura 2010
On 3 December 2010 Gabriel Hauche scored the opening goal for Racing Club against Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata in the 17th round of the Apertura 2010 tournament with a brilliant back-heel nutmeg on the goalkeeper. Racing Club eventually won the game 2-0.
Lujos: Rúben Botta vs Estudiantes, Apertura 2010
On 13 November 2010 Tigre hosted league leaders Estudientes de La Plata in the 14th round of Apertura 2010. As the game was going into the last few minutes of the 2nd half the home team were down to 10 players after the dismissal of Román Martínez but 2-1 ahead.
Instead of running the ball into the corner flag to kill time they were intent on playing attacking football to the end, an approach epitomised by this play from 20 year old substitute Rubén Botta.
Game of the week: 17 November 2010 - Internacional 2-3 Avaí
On 14 November 2010 Brazilian side Avaí faced a tough away trip to play Copa Libertadores holders Internacional. They had just been eliminated from the quarter finals of Copa Sudamericana 2010 and needed to focus on escaping from the relegation zone with only 4 games of the league season remaining. They could not have started the game in a better way than scoring the fastest goal of the season after only 16 seconds with this marvelous team goal finished off by Patric. The away team eventually won 2-3 to give themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.
Avaí went 2-0 ahead with another well crafted goal featuring a back-heel in the build up play before the reigning South American champions fought back to 2-2 with two goals in 5 minutes, the first from Leandro Damião and then another goal featuring a back-heel in the build up to set up a magnificent strike from Rafael Sóbis to level the scores.
The away side did not give up and within 4 minutes they had re-established their lead with a header from Robinho (no not that Robinho, he plays for AC Milan). They held onto their advantage until the end of the game to claim a vital 3 points. They are still 2 points away from safety with only 3 games remaining but without this win they would be in a much more desperate position.

Golazo: Leopoldo Luque vs Huracán
In 1979 Leopoldo Luque scored a famous goal for River Plate against Huracán. The much travelled striker was an idol for River Plate and part of the Argentina squad that had just won the 1978 World Cup.
Golazo: Edmar vs Debrecen, Europa League 2010
Brazilian midfielder Edmar is an almost unknown figure in Brazilian football having left his homeland in 2002 to ply his trade in the Ukraine. On 16 September 2010 he scored this back-heel goal to help his team Metalist Kharkiv record an impressive 0-5 away win against Hungarian side Debrecen.
Golazo: Radamel Falcao taco vs Benfica
7 November 2010: Portuguese side Porto recorded a historic 5-0 win against Benfica to extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points after only 10 games. Their third goal was an absolutely brilliant back heel goal from their Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

3 October 2010: Colombian striker Wilmer Medina scored this wonderful flying back heel in an entertaining 2-2 draw between his side Deportes Tolima and Argentine side Independiente in the quarter finals of Copa Sudamericana 2010.
Golazo: Radamel Falcao, River Plate vs Estudiantes, Apertura 2007
29 August 2007: River Plate and Estudiantes de La Plata faced each other at the Estadio Monumental. River were 3-2 ahead going into the last few minutes of the game but instead of running the ball into the corner in order to waste time they decided to showboat until the final whistle resulting in this remarkable goal which included 4 back-heels in the build up play.
Lujos: Fernando Redondo taco vs Manchester United
In the 1999-00 season Manchester United and Real Madrid met in the quarter finals of the Champions League. United were confident of success after a 0-0 draw in the Bernabéu but Real stunned Manchester United at Old Trafford winning 2-3. One of the great moments of the night was Fernando Redondo bamboozling Henning Berg with a brilliant back-heel to create the space to cross for Raúl to apply the finish.
