Leonel Núñez golazo contra Huracán, Clausura 2011
On 18 June 2011 Huracán faced a tough looking trip to Avellaneda to play Independiente knowing that a win would allow them to avoid automatic relegation. The game did not go well for the visitors who had their goalkeeper sent off, missed a penalty and found themselves 4-1 down going into the last minute when Leonel Núñez scored this cracking individual goal to add a fifth for Independiente. As the final whistle went the Huracán fans were in mourning as their relegation rivals were winning 2-1 against Boca Juniors and about to leapfrog Huracán out of the automatic relegation zone however Cristian Cellay scored a late equaliser for Boca to set up a playoff between Huracán and Gimnasia to determine which of them ends up automatically relegated and which will face Union de Santa Fe in the promotion/relgation playoff.
Patricio Rodríguez vs Olimpo, Clausura 2011 Argentina
On 15 May 2011 Independiente faced a tough looking trip to Bahía Blanca to play Olimpo in the 14th round of the Clausura 2011 tournament in Argentina. The two sides were involved in the battle to avoid finishing in the relegation places and a win for Olimpo would have lifted them out of the drop zone and above River Plate and Independiente however the reds recorded only their second away win in 22 games against Argentine opposition thanks to this spectacular individual effort from man-of-the-match Patrico Rodríguez.
Lucas golazo vs Mirassol, Paulista 2011
There has been a lot of hype about 18 year old São Paulo & Brazil international midfielder Lucas and also some confusion given the fact that there is already a Brazil international nicknamed Lucas. The general consensus is that Lucas the younger has great skills and lots of pace but is lacking in awareness, something that he is likely to improve with age and experience. On 3 April 2011 he scored this great individual goal against Mirassol in the Paulista championship.
Cleider Alzáte golazo contra Millonarios, Apertura 2011 Colombia
On 19 March 2011 newly promoted Colombian Primera División side Itagüí Ditaires played Millonarios with the opportunity to join Once Caldas on sixteen points at the top of the division. Things didn't work out well for them as they suffered a 2-1 defeat, only their second defeat of the season. They did score one of the goals of the Colombian season so far. Lionard Pajoy bamboozled the Millonarios defence with a number of gambetas and turns before playing the ball back to Cleider Alzáte who calmly curled a shot into the far top corner of the Millonarios goal.
Federico Insúa gambeta vs Tecos, Apertura 2007 Mexico
Back in 2007 Mexican side Club América had a team packed with South American talent. Three of the key players were Federico Insúa of Argentina, Rodrigo López of Uruguay and Salvador Cabañas of Paraguay. One of their best performances came in a 4-1 win against Tecos in the 4th round of the 2007 Apertura when Insúa did this remarkable "gambeta" to set up López for the first goal of his hat-trick and Cabañas bagged the other goal.
Golazo: Luis Páez vs Deportivo Pereira, Primera A Colombia, Apertura 2011
On 27 February 2011 Junior played Deportivo Pereira in the fourth round of the Colombian Apertura 2011 tournament. Junior secured an important 2-1 win thanks to this spectacular individual goal from Luis Páez.
The goal was however overshadowed when Pereira's Panamanian defender Luis Moreno kicked Junior's owl mascot off the pitch!
Golazo: Yohandry Orozco vs Peru, 2011 Sudamericano sub-20
On 24 January 2011 Peru U-20 faced Venezuela U-20 in the first group stage of the 2011 South American Youth Championships. The hosts needed a result against Venezuela and were 1-0 up when Yohandy Orozco scored this brilliant individual effort to make it 1-1.
Golazo: Juan Manuel Martínez vs Racing Club, Apertura 2010
On 12 December 2010 the Apertura 2010 championship in Argentina went down to the last round of fixtures. It looked like the tournament was destined for a championship playoff after Vélez Sársfield established a 2-0 lead against Racing Club with this brilliant individual goal from Juan Manuel Martínez and an exceptional free kick from Maxi Moralex, and Estudiantes were being held 0-0 by Arsenal. It took two late goals for Estudiantes' ex Vélez striker Hernán López to secure a 5th domestic championship for the La Plata side.
Golazo: Mauro Zárate vs Belgrano 2007
In 2007 Vélez Sársfield striker Mauro Zárate was a hot prospect. He was the joint top scorer in the Argentine league in Apertura 2006 at the age of 19 and he started 2007 with this magnificent goal in a pre-season 3-0 win against Belgrano, his other goal in the game was also pretty good.
Within 6 months Qatari side Al-Sadd made him an offer he couldn't refuse, enough money to set himand his family up for life to sign for them. He did sign and was soon loaned out to Birmingham FC in England who inexplicably only played him in a few games as they were relegated from the Premier League. He then joined Lazio on loan and eventually signed a permanent deal with the club in 2009.
Lujos: Rúben Botta vs Estudiantes, Apertura 2010
On 13 November 2010 Tigre hosted league leaders Estudientes de La Plata in the 14th round of Apertura 2010. As the game was going into the last few minutes of the 2nd half the home team were down to 10 players after the dismissal of Román Martínez but 2-1 ahead.
Instead of running the ball into the corner flag to kill time they were intent on playing attacking football to the end, an approach epitomised by this play from 20 year old substitute Rubén Botta.
Golazo: Agustín Delgado, Ecuador vs Brazil, World Cup qualifier 2001.
On 28 March 2001: Ecuador played Brazil in Quito in what was to become a historic World Cup qualifier. Iván Kaviedes received the ball from Alex Aguinaga and ran at the Brazilian defence taking the ball past three defenders, his cross/shot was turned into the net by Agustín Delgado to give Ecuador a famous 1-0 win, their first ever triumph against the Brazilians. Later that year Kaviedes scored his most famous goal to give Ecuador the draw they needed against Uruguay to earn their first appearance at a World Cup finals in 2002.
